Dr. Pant and Dr. Stening, established Sydney Orthopaedic Sports Med to deliver an unparalleled level of orthopaedic expertise within Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Both doctors have a wealth of experience, utilise leading surgical techniques and are well respected in their field.

Sydney Orthopaedics + Sports Med (SOSM) brings together two of Sydney’s leading orthopaedic surgeons, Dr Michael Stening and Dr Sushil Pant.
SOSM aims to streamline experienced orthopaedic care and optimise the patient journey from diagnosis, through to recovery.
With each Specialist Surgeon managing upper and lower limb conditions exclusively, SOSM is pleased to provide a comprehensive orthopaedic clinic to patients and referrers alike. Our focus is delivering consistent, high-level outcomes for injury, trauma and degenerative conditions.

Dr Sushil Pant
BMedSc(Hons) MBBS(Hons) FRACS (Orth) FA Ortho A
Dr Sushil Pant is a leading Australian trained orthopaedic shoulder surgeon. He is the founder and medical director of the Sydney Shoulder Unit; and is a Shoulder Surgeon at Sydney Sports Medicine Centre at Sydney Olympic Park.
Dr Pant is Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is a fellowship trained subspecialist shoulder surgeon, with extensive local and international experience treating all conditions about the shoulder.
Dr Pant treats elite and amateur level athletes with shoulder instability; those in middle age with rotator cuff disorders; and older individuals with shoulder arthritis. He uses the latest arthroscopic techniques for shoulder reconstruction; and advanced computer navigation/patient specific instrumentation for shoulder replacements. Dr Pant performs several hundred shoulder operations each year; and is considered by his peers to be a high-volume shoulder surgeon.

Dr Michael Stening

Dr Stening has been in clinical practice since 1999 as Visiting Medical Officer at Hawkesbury Hospital Windsor and Sydney Childrens Randwick. He also has visiting rights at Norwest Private Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital and more recently at Lakeview Private Hospital. Dr Stening has a busy clinical practice specialising in hip and knee arthroplasty.
Dr Stening has developed a particular interest in anterior minimally invasive hip replacement and patient specific knee replacement surgery. He is actively involved in teaching Orthopaedic trainees having been supervisor of training at both Sydney Childrens and Hawkesbury Hospitals and recently appointed to Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Court of Examiners, the peak examining body of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
He is current Head of Orthopaedics at St John of God Hawkesbury District Hospital and immediate Past President of the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society.

Sydney Orthopaedics + Sports Med sees patients regardless of their insurance status. In many cases, non-surgical treatment is the best course of action and all that is required is a thorough assessment, clear diagnosis and recovery advice.
When surgery is required, a competitive quote is provided that clearly outlines the costs associated with your care. Please note that a proportion of the surgical fee does attract a rebate via Medicare. For short stay and overnight procedures the cost is becoming more affordable.
Two hour free parking is available at Eastpoint Food Fair Carpark, the building adjacent to Edgecliff Centre. Parking is via New McLean Street.
Take the lift to ground floor, facing away from the Aldi supermarket exit toward New South Head Road. We are located at 203-233 New South Head Road and our rooms are on Level 2, Suite 211.
If travelling by train, take the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line towards Bondi Junction to Edgecliff station. Take the escalators from the station and exit at New South Head Road and turn left.
Walk approximately 20 metres to 203-233 New South Head Road in the Edgecliff centre. Our rooms are on Level 2, Suite 211.
For your first appoint please bring with you the following:
- Valid current GP referral (if you wish to claim your Medicare rebate)
- Medicare Card
- Health Fund details (if applicable)
- Hard copy of any shoulder imaging and reports (X-ray, CT, and MRI)
- Any other communication you have received about your shoulder from other doctors, surgeons, and physiotherapists
If you are a Worker’s Compensation or CTP patient then please bring your claim number and case manager details with you.
Our team will provide you with any “Patient Information” forms that need to be completed prior to your appointment.
Alternatively, please arrive 10 minutes early to allow sufficient time to complete those on the day.
Dr Stening and Dr Pant operate out of a number of leading Sydney hospitals. The hospitals have been carefully selected to optimise patient care, outcomes and convenience for patients throughout Sydney.
Each of the hospitals at which we undertake surgical treatments and procedures have extensive experience in caring for patients requiring shoulder surgery providing careful post-operative management.
